July 4!

Today is Independence Day. It is a time to celebrate the country's Independence. This Independence feels different, and so do I.

The excitement I once had around this day feels different.

So much has changed from past years; good, bad, and indifferent.

This country has been through social injustice, First Black VP, an Insurrection, the first Black Female Supreme Court Justice, a pandemic, and a woman's right to choose stripped.

Just some small examples.

So Happy July 4? Am not sure how I feel about "Happy"?

Here is what I am happy about on this day.

I am spending time with family this weekend, which I have not seen in years; this is happiness.

Our conversations about our family unity and being able to share laughter and joy.

The importance of being there for one another and not going years without having conversations.

My family is my happiness!

Family is so important to me!

I pray my family understands the love I have for them.

I don't take it for granted.

I appreciate my family.

So today is about my family, and I celebrate all of them.
