Gaslighting: Recognizing the Signs and Protecting Yourself

To recognize gaslighting behavior, it is important to trust your instincts and pay attention to any inconsistencies or contradictions in the gaslighter's words and actions.

Keep a journal to document incidents and seek support from trusted friends or family members who can provide an objective perspective. When confronted with gaslighting, assert your boundaries, communicate your feelings and concerns, and consider seeking professional help, if needed.

A serious conversation
gaslighting is not a love language

For example, if the gaslighter minimizes your feelings by telling you they are unimportant, you could calmly reply that your feelings are valid and that you are seeking help.

You could also explain that you deserve to have your feelings and emotions taken seriously. If the gaslighter persists, you could walk away and seek help from a trusted friend or family member. Additionally, you could document the gaslighting behavior and use it to seek help from a professional.

Remember gaslighting is not a love language. You deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, and you don't need to justify your feelings or emotions. Stand up for yourself and don't let the gaslighter manipulate you.

If you are overwhelmed after dealing with this type of relationship, get help. Talk to someone you trust, such as a friend or a therapist. Set boundaries and don't be afraid to express how you feel. Finally, remember that you are not alone and you are not alone in this fight.
