Is it worth it? How to navigate a hostile work environment

Team working on a project
Working in a hostile work environment can be stressful

It is important to be aware of your rights and, speak up if you feel threatened or discriminated against. Taking action and standing up for yourself can be intimidating, but it is an important step to protecting yourself. Additionally, seeking help from a supportive supervisor or HR representative is important.

When you know your rights, you know what you are entitled to in the workplace. You also know you have the right to, act if you feel your rights are being violated. Seeking help from a supportive supervisor or HR representative can help you have the support you need to feel safe and protected in the workplace.

It's important to understand that you are not required to stay in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. You have the right to leave a job if you are feeling mistreated. It is never too late to take action to get the support you deserve.

Make sure you have a plan, dust off the resume, and research different opportunities you want to pursue. This last one is my favorite, when possible develop your skills while you figure out your next step. For example, does your current job allow you to earn certifications? If the answer is yes then work on obtaining those certifications.

The other important thing is to make sure you heal from your experience. Whether it's going to therapy, doing self-care activities, you do not want to go into your dream job with old traumas hanging over your head.
